Adaptive Home Renovation in Vancouver for Better Mobility
As we age, our homes need to adapt to our changing needs. Adaptive home renovations make it easier and safer to stay in your own home longer. Whether you’re looking to improve mobility or enhance safety features, adaptive home renovation for retirees in Vancouver can help you live independently for years to come.
Simple modification tips for Adaptive Home Renovation
Simple modifications can make a big difference in your home’s functionality, while also enhancing your quality of life.
Accessibility is Key: Widen Your Doors and Hallways
For retirees, mobility is one of the most important factors in home design. Widening doorways and hallways can make a huge difference in accessibility, especially if you use a wheelchair or walker. At Abstract Homes & Renovations Inc., we specialize in making your home accessible without sacrificing its charm or character.
Safety Features: Prevent Accidents with Simple Changes
Bathrooms and staircases are where most accidents happen in the home. Adding grab bars, installing non-slip floors, and upgrading stairs with handrails can prevent accidents and improve safety for retirees. These modifications are simple but can have a life-changing impact.
Smart Technology for Health Monitoring
Integrating smart home technology can give peace of mind. Motion sensors, remote-controlled lighting, and fall detection systems help increase safety and reduce the need for constant supervision. These technologies are especially helpful for seniors who want to maintain their independence.
Energy Efficiency and Comfort
Adaptive renovations should also focus on comfort. Installing energy-efficient heating, cooling, and lighting systems can make the home more comfortable while reducing energy bills. Plus, features like adjustable countertops and sinks ensure that every task is within reach and easy to manage.
Condo Renovation in Vancouver by Abstract Homes to Improve Accessibility
There was Condo Renovation project that came to us with very specific instructions. This was not a Adaptive Home Renovation but the remodeling was done to support one of the homeowners with accessibility and mobility who had recently been in a very bad motor vehicle accident and was now in a wheelchair.
This condo could not currently accommodate him, but with very specific modifications, we were able to make this a fully mobile friendly home. We widened the kitchen to make the radius fit a wheelchair to turn completely around. We widened all the doorways. We made the washroom completely mobile friendly and it is a what they call a wet room. There are no obstructions for the client to go in or out of the shower.
There is plenty of room for him to enjoy his home and everything was updated to be completely modern. This condo is now a bright and comfortable space for this great couple.
